ATS resume checklist: clear formatting and stronger evidence
Build a readable resume with a simple structure, relevant evidence and a final export check.
A useful resume helps a recruiter understand your fit quickly. Clear formatting also makes it easier for software to extract your work history. There is no universal ATS score that guarantees an interview, so focus on accuracy, readability and relevance.
Use a simple structure
Start with your name and reliable contact details. Follow with a short role-specific summary, relevant experience, projects, skills and education. Keep headings conventional. A single-column layout is a practical starting point; put essential information in the main document rather than inside decorative graphics.
Translate the job description into evidence
Highlight the requirements you can honestly demonstrate. If a listing asks for customer support and CRM experience, describe the support work and systems you used. Do not repeat a keyword you cannot explain in an interview. A focused skills section should support the experience section rather than replace it.
Rewrite vague bullet points
Instead of “responsible for website updates,” try “updated product pages and resolved broken links before each weekly release.” Add a real measured result only if you can support it. When metrics are unavailable, describe the scope, frequency or quality check.
Check the exported document
- Follow the employer's requested file format.
- Open the exported file and check page breaks, links and spelling.
- Copy the text into a plain text editor. Confirm the reading order still makes sense.
- Name the file clearly, such as Sufyan-Rasheed-Frontend-Resume.pdf.
- Keep a copy of the exact version submitted alongside the job record.
Send fewer generic applications
Before submitting, identify two points of overlap between your evidence and the listing. Adjust your opening summary and strongest examples around those points. Remove outdated or irrelevant detail if it hides the work the employer needs to see.
