Remote job application email: examples and send checklist

Write a concise remote job application with relevant evidence, a portfolio link and a clear send checklist.

Follow the application instructions first

Use email when the employer asks for it. If the listing directs you to an application form, submit there. Read the location and working-hours requirements before spending time on a tailored message. Remote work can still have location restrictions.

Write around one relevant example

Choose a piece of work that shows you can handle the role's main responsibility. Explain what you did and the outcome you can support. Avoid invented metrics or broad claims such as “expert in everything.” A small, specific example is more informative.

If you are changing careers

Lead with transferable evidence. A support role may benefit from a clear troubleshooting example; a junior development application may benefit from a small finished project. Explain your contribution without presenting coursework as paid employment.

Check before sending

Use the resume checklist for a final document review. Log the role and submission date in the free application tracker.

Prepare for the reply

Monitor the contact channel you supplied. Confirm interview times with an explicit time zone and use the employer's meeting instructions. After an interview, adapt the follow-up email templates to the conversation you actually had.
